Replacements for Discontinued Finals

Many 2-way radios were made with bipolar transistors that have been

discontinued. This includes many of the popular cb radios. There are still

lots of these transistors stockpiled in various places, but the supply is

diminishing. Many CB radios use a 2SC1969, 2SC2078, 2SC2312 and 2SC2166

as the final. These transistors have not been made in over 2 years. A suitable

replacement had to be found. there are a number of other transistors that

will work in that circuit with a few changes to the circuit. We have a MOSFET

device made by International Rectifier that requires very little modification

 to the circuit and produces far more output. One nice advantage to the

mosfet is that with a little more DC voltage applied to the unit - even more

power is produced. At near 15volts it produces about 40 watts or even more.

Below 14volts not much power increase is obtained. There is, however,

a large increase in modulation. Most autos provide 14.4 - 14.8vdc while

the engine is running. The kits listed below have all

the required parts and instructions on how to install them.

Some soldering is required.
